This web site is about one branch of the Reddicliffe family in Australia. The family has been in Australia for over 150 years (I am the 7th generation) but our lineage can be traced back to England.
Rumor has it that my ancestor had to leave England for a small indiscression so jumped onto a ship destined for the new colony before the authorities of the time could catchup to him. After arriving in Australia, he took up mining and ended up in far north Queensland, where the family grew until they moved into Cairns from Petford. I still hear the stories from my father about having dirt floors, and going out to catching bandicoots and selling them to the rail workers.
